Fr. Richard Bauer, MM is a priest with the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers and has been involved in ministry and support for people affected by HIV since the early 1980s. He moved to Africa in 1997 serving as the Director of Catholic Care and Support Programs - first in Tanzania and later in Namibia. He works diligently to ensure that palliative care is integrated into health systems and health care. As both a priest and clinical social worker, Fr Bauer has a wide range of experience with care and support activities and integrating holistic spiritual care into program service delivery. He serves on the board of the African Palliative Care Association, is an Assistant Editor for the
Journal of HIV and Social Work, is the chair of the Catholic HIV and AIDS Network (CHAN) of Caritas Internationalis, and is on the Leader’s Council for the Global Network on Spirituality and Health. In 2016, Fr Bauer will begin a two-year residency in Spiritual Care at the Mount Sinai Hospital.
